I recently installed Norton Internet Security 2005 on my primary home PC. Since the install, the time required to launch Internet Explorer has increased from 2 seconds to 12 seconds, and the time to launch Windows Explore has increased from 1.5 seconds to 6 seconds. Once launched, they both perform well. If I disable the Security piece of the Norton 2005 and leave the Antivirus and Antispam segments running, the launch delays disappear.
I've also installed the same Norton software (it's the 3-license version) on another home PC (3 GHz, 512 MB Intel platform) that's running XP Home SP2. No performance deterioration was observed on this machine.
I've reviewed the settings for Norton 2005, Internet Explorer, and Network Connection, and can't see anything different between the two machines. Both PCs are tied in to a single SMC router which is in term connected to an ADSL system.
Any ideas what else I could look at here? Many thanks.
