for the past few days, every time i log on to the net...my dsl speed has been ridiculously slow...slower than when i had 56k...do i have a virus, or am i being hacked, or is someone stealing my bandwidth for something else...does anyone know what it might be and how i can resolve this

If you're using all your upstream bandwidth, null ACK packets won't get through as fast as they should, and all your downloads slow down. You'll also get more latency. Sharing with p2p programs can saturate your upstream bandwidth.

Do a free OnLine virus scan at HouseCall_AV.

Download, install, update and run the Spyware_AD-ware/Browser HiJacker checking programs AD-Aware_v6 and SpyBot_S&D as they can remove this junk.

Use a web site like Toast.net to measure your actual accress the network transfer rate before and after.

dslreports.com has a speed test with recommendations (which can be implemented with DRTCP).

im a tech. for bellsouth and i dealt with alot of slow connectivity issues what i would recommend is to download a program called "amazing netgrapher" which graphs the % of down/up to total bandwith.

to know if thats the issue.

yeah, with DSl every once in a whie you need to like unplug the dsl modem and all cords connected for about a minute, then put it all back together. it should work perfect after that
