Comment:

Spent 5 hrs. today on my friend's system. Ran SS&D and AdAware, which fixed many things and then re-scanned clean after several re-boots. Lots of the usual you'd expect to find when a teenager is in the house: iMesh, Gator, etc. System still slow with thrashing harddrive; too slow to even scan with Norton. Virtually an unusable system. I'll remove his HD and scan it for viruses from my laptop tomorrow, but in the meantime, here's the HijackThis log. I see things I don't like in it, but I don't want to take out the wrong thing(s). Anything glaring that I should have it fix? I know I need to educate the family about avoiding P2P software, etc. and those discussions will continue. No point bailing out the boat if there's still a hole in the hull! Thanks in advance; you people do a great service for everyone - Doug

That av.exe isn't good. Here: http://www.ncsu.edu/resnet/pages/security/realphx.php . You also have emesx.dll which is supposibly adware. Get a good scanner to get rid of it. sidesearch1311.dll is a hijacker that changes IE settings. It's adware, and is annoying. winex.DLL is another hijacker. stlbupdt.DLL is another hijacker/adware. IE_ClrSch.DLL is another hijacker/adware. hh.dll is adware. There were one or two things I couldn't find info for. Hopefully this helped you. You need to scan with a good scanner. I suggest Spy Sweeper, I like it a lot more than Adaware. You also need to get rid of that trojan/virus. Your antivirus might be able to do that, if not I put up that link for you on removal. Good luck.

Pro Bono Doug,
Yor version of HijackThis is out of date, you can find Version 1.97.7 at this link.
http://www.merijn.org/downloads.html
Post a log from the updated version and I will check it for you and tell you what to remove with it, Tope has already found several.
Have a nice day. :)
