Iam so sick of recieving the Klez virus everyday, again ! It was happening to me a couple of months ago , where on a daily basis I would recieve 1 or 2 infected emails. My Norton Anti-Virus Program catches the virus and qurantines it , I then delete it off the system there. Because I have WinMe for an O/S , I then have to disable the System Restore Utility to purge the virus from the Restore\Temp folder. Iam recieving these emails with subject lines like "A Great Tool" or "New Game " in Outlook Express. I also have a Hotmail account. In Hotmail they pre-scan the mail with MacAfee, so I must be getting the virus sent to me in hotmail also, because I will have emails that show a size of around 130KB . Yet when I open the mail the body is empty ? Is there some setting I can change to prevent these infected emails from downloading in Outlook ?
FYI , I do have the pre-veiw pane removed ! Its just a pain having to log off and go thru the process of eliminating the virus from my PC. Does anyone know why I would be recieving this virus daily ? Is it possible that Iam being targeted to recieve this virus automatically everyday ? Iam glad I kept my Anti-Virus protection active and up to date. Thanks To All,Nick

I've been fighting Klez.H for months. I have anti-virus on every machine on the network, but Klez.H keeps rearing it's head. I find it in strange places...in temp folders, in shared folders for printer drivers, etc.
Every machine on the network has anti-virus, but Norton keeps letting Klez through.

Nick, same here, except I do not use outlook express, only Yahoo. So the gifts, pictures, offers of help and nice tools are always blank, so no action is required on my part. I read an interesting article about the Kazaa filters or lack of them. 6% of the files from Kazaa are virus packages! Take care and all the best!

Sick of Klez:
If your Norton is catching the virus and putting it in quarantine then you are protected not Infected. The antivirus is working as programmed as far as receiving email that has Klez if you are running your own SMPT server (Exchange or Domino) you could bounce the email back to the sender.Kyle: Sounds like you may still have Klez in you network some where suggest disconnect all computer and run Klez fix tool. Do you have a server? and if so are you running the corporate edition of Norton NAV 2002 or 2001 will not protect your server.
MrWizard

The people we should be blaming for this are not going to ever read anything in this forum. They are the computer inept, with their Outlook Express preview panes and no AV or firewalls, downloading what they think are songs, games, porn or whatever, from KaZaa and the like with extensions like .exe, .vbs, .bat, etc. that are only about 50k. These stupid people are bringing us all down. If you know one of these people, tell them to get your email address out of their contact list.
There is a certain level of responsiblity that one must have when the run a computer that is attached to the internet. Think about it... how do these virii propagate? Not through us!!

hey, i like my preview pane :P my antivirus is set on maximum heuristics...and it scans everything, even when i'm moving files, etc (not just on creation)

Nice thought Marc
I guess these guys, back in the seventies, with the flowers in their heads, had ideas that were even good .. and even impossible to achieve.
Cant blame you from dreaming however.
Attention to everybody, all over the world: DONT get yourself infected with a virus.
OK, that problem is solved. And now, poverty across the world, how will we solve that ... ?

I just wanna comment on the above suggestion of bouncing the email back to the sender...the people who apparently sent you these virus's may be totally innocent...such is the nature of Klez that it can change the "from" line to someone in the infected senders address book..so it LOOKS like it was sent by someone else...
I've had loads of infected mails (all caught by Nortons...version 2001 BTW kept updated)They were all sent by different people..(it seemed)...but (thru outlook express)I right clicked on the mails & looked at their properties....they all showed they were sent by the same person...it showed the proper senders email addy..(So I was able to mail that person & tell them they was infected).
I got two infected mails yesterday, ten mins apart...by different people apparently..again looking at the properties this time showed identical IP addy's along with the name of the ISP of the person who really sent them.
I've had loads of infected mails returned to me that I'd apparently sent saying the mail couldn't be delivered....I know I'm not infected so someone had unknowingly been sending out infected emails & my addy was being used this time in the "from" box..obviously I'm in an infected persons address book!
Yeah I know I gotta long round about way of explaining things but hope that clears something up! :¬)

one way to figure out if you have a virus that sends mail out using your e-mail address and sending it to everyone in your address book is to have an e-mail address that doesn't exist in your contact list... then if you get a message couldn't be delivered... then you know that something is up... that's of course if you already have mcafee or norton scanning and they don't find anything... just a nice backup...
