Subject: Should I just use trendmirco virus.OS: XPCPU/Ram: AMD 3000 |
Comment: Hello, I have been using Norton's Antivirus for a few years now and recently their new versions cause problems with my other programs. I also use my computer for hardcore gaming and business, and I havent seen any virus attempts ever since Service Pack 2 came out. So would it be better to just use trendmicro online virus scanner every night, instead of having the Nortons Antivirus 2005 installed? Thanks

Reply: (edit)Hello Greatgamer, The reason why you got problem with your Norton AV program is maybe because you tried to install your version 2005, then you change your mind and came back to earlier version as Norton 2004 or 2003. Norton Symantec mention clearly this manipulation is not allowed since the newer version have some new features which are not readables by formers versions, problem is you can not erase the signatures of programs installed before or after: result is the big " BUG "

Reply: (edit)Um Faradel what are you talking about lol. Why would I downgrade a version when I have purchased a new one? Anyway, the bugs I am experiencing with 2005 that I already contacted their support about, is sometimes with WS FTP when transferring files to my server it blocks it as a trojan attempt, when its not. Even when you select the "permit" option or "do not alert me again" it still does it. Another problem is with some games such as UT2K4 when the server browser appear I get the same alert.

Reply: (edit)Trend Micro's free online antivirus scan is good, but it is not designed to be REACTIVE, not PROACTIVE. You should be running an antivirus program in the background. As jabuck pointed out, AVG is free. There are other free antivirus programs available; I happen to use another free program called AntiVir, and have been happy with it. Do a Google search for AVG and AntiVir ... check out the various reviews, and decide which is best for you.

Reply: (edit) I have used AVG free for 2-3 years now without a problem and I occasionally will go in and use one of the free online scans like trendmicro or Panda and they have never found anything that AVG had missed . Also if you are getting a lot of viruses then your ISP is doing a poor job on their mailservers and you should think about switching . 99% of viruses should be picked off by your ISP's mail servers .
