Comment: hello, I cannot run any antivirus program (was using norton 2003 but have now deleted it) and tried a few online virus checkers (Panda, housecalls, Rav, Micro Trends) but they could not load either. Tried all things also in safe mode nothing. When I run spybot and adaware they work and find things every time i run them. But I cant run any virus checkers. When I go online I can't get into my emails or games. anything that redirects to a new url wont work. I am stuck and seriously need help!!! thanks to all in advance!

Reply: (edit)If you can't d/l anything, maybe go to a friends house and download Avast! 4 home edition which is free and doesn't take up near as many resources as Norton. After you install it, I would totally uninstall Norton which I see you did already. Also WinPatrol will work good too, keeping hijackers and other stuff from installing on your system. You didn't say you had a firewall? That would be essential too. Hope that helps It's hard to do a good job When you have a monkey on your back

Reply: (edit)some virus scanners require windows to run in normal mode to work, uninstall all virus scans, check registry to verify, firewall and other programs sharing dlls may conflict, temporarly disable them before trying, check add/remove items, and startup files, even retry norton ,:)
