I have been recently getting over 3 or 4 mails a day from someone named security@microsoft.com. I dont believe that this is an actual microsoft representative, and furthermore, why would htey send ten million mails? does anyone know anything about this. I did not open it, just deleted it. furthermore, my homepage is continuously reset, espically after using IE for a long ammount of time. Also, I get popups from something called "only the best", which ranges from porn ads to mp3 announcements. its getting on my nerves. I have a popup blocker, but I want to get rid of these ads permanetly, so my computer runs faster.

finally, is there any way to save on system resources when initilzing zone alarm? that thing takes up 15% of all resources.

thanks
J

The MS email is not from MS and it is a virus. Keep deleting it.

The system resources, browser hijacks and pop ups will probably all be cleared up by Spybot and Ad-Aware. Download, update and run them both.

You can get them both at Wilders.org downloads. They are toward the bottom of the page.

A comment about zone alarm taking up so much resorces...likely that will clear up once you get rid of whatever spyware/crapware you have on your machine causing popups etc. Zone alarm is likely working harder than normal trying to stop the spyware from "callin home"

Also just to accent what efabes said about those emails....Microsoft or any antivirus site will NEVER send attached anything.
Users need to know the only way Microsoft delivers updates is by either going to their site or using the automatic update feature.
Those email's from from field is spoofed to make it easier to spread the virus since quite a few people will think a "reputable" company is just helping them out by sending "patches". Unfortunately it works quite well and virus writers are going to continue to use that method to spread viruses/worms/trojans.
Glad to see you had the "heads up" on that trick and didn't get sucked in.
