I am about to get a broadband account, could someone advise me what security measures I should take please? Do I need an anti-virus solution, a firewall and an anti-spyware program? Or is there one catch-all solution? If you could suggest actual products that would be great. Thanks

Your best defense would be a router. Get one.

Router firewall is best, but if not get a software firewall (zone alarm free or sygate), antivirus and spyware/crapware cleaners. Just go here and pick one from each list.

From the Privacy Related list, pick 1,4,5,6,7,8,10,11!

And go back to the main forum everyday and check for updates or check here!!

I never did get this..
zone alarm specifies exactly what ports are allowed both incoming and outgoing so why is a router better?
A router doesnt stop DOS connections right?
Firewalls arent allowed to police certain copnnections and neither are routers so what the diff except the $$$??

A computer is a perfectionist's nightmare.
