searchprotocolhost.exe is infected

Microsoft Windows 7 home premium
May 25, 2010 at 14:03:40
Specs: Windows 7, core 2 duo/4
Everytime I open a new tab, everytime I open a program(attempt to open a program) I get the searchprotocolhost.exe is infected, would you like to turn on protection. Nothing will open on my computer. I type services into the search box and hit enter. Then it tells me that mmc.exe is infected, same message different file. This is ridiculous. I cant even open my virus protection programs. How do I fix this?

i would suggest trying to boot in safe mode.and trying to run your av from there. then post a hijackthis log.
Safe Mode with Networking
Restart your computer.
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select Safe Mode with Networking, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
