Do you have Browse Control installed?

We will start with removing the following entries: But first we need to put hijack in its own folder ..you are running it from a temp folder..if a mistake is made..we can't fix it.
I use c:\hijack\hijackthis.exe

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://g.msn.com/0SEENUS/SAOS10

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/240f8688f94e3ae52621/netzip/RdxIE601.cab

Once those are checked close all open windows except hijack and click "fix checked"

Reboot

Then try going to www.my.yahoo.com, click tools at top of IE window, internet options, click use current, apply, ok.
Restart IE ...see if that works.

Are you having any other internet connection problems?

Yes... I had browse control installed... testing it for a friend with kids... but it has been disabled for a long time.

I did what you suggested and still have the same problem.... hummmmm.....

No, not having any other internet probs... funny thing is if I go to www.yahoo.com and search it works fine... it is only when I go to my personal yahoo page (my.yahoo.com) that this happens... how weird is that?

This is frustrating!

Again... I appreciate your help here.. thanks.

hmmm...was wondering about Browse Control because I still see it running in your process list...cwClient.exe I am wondering if that program has anything to do with the problems...I am not familliar with it so I really don't know....Did you try disabling browse control because you were having problems with yahoo?
I'm not sure how you disabled browse control but this page shows how to uninstall it if you want...:

http://www.uberdonkey.com/browse_control.txt

Are you able to access any other secure sites? (like hotmail or any others you would need to log into?)

When you ran ad-aware...anything other than cookies keep showing up? (some things don't show up in hijack)

What is the full url you get with the error page when trying to access your yahoo?

Also try deleting all your temporary internet files including offline content.
I would also delete the cookies....whatever sites you need to sign into you will need to sign in again (including here)...all those cookies will be lost but it just might reset your yahoo. Sometimes the cookies saved go corrupt. If yahoo made any changes to their servers...the saved cookie you have might be messing it up.

Sorry for all the questions but I see nothing immediate in your hijack log...altho the entries removed are fine to remove.

OK... I uninstalled Browse Control.. but no, I had no probs with it at all....

I am able to access any and all sites... it is only searching from a my.yahoo.com page that is a problem.... I just registered a bogus name and created a new my.yahoo.com page and it has the same problem.

Ran ad-aware again.... and nothing showed up...

In a search for "pickles" I get the following address in my address bar...

I also tried deleting all cookies, history... etc etc... no luck....

I am starting to get worried....

I ran Spybot-Search & Destroy and it found a registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\egroup)... I had Spybot delete it and my problem went away.... I have no idea what is was or where it came from.....

Thank you so much for your help... If I find out more about this thing I will post it here...

Glad you got it worked out....Spybot was my next plan but you beat me to it.

Apparently eGroup is a dialer (not much info)
There is another program most of us here use to protect from such malware...
Spywareblaster; It installs a "killbit" in the registry that will block over 1000 known malware "drive by" downloads. Likely that is how you got it.
Once spywareblaster is installed; check for and install all updates listed.
Click the "select all" button
Click the "protect from selected items" button.
Check about once a week for updates.
Each update you will have to "select all", "protect from".
You should also see less of those popup windows asking if you want to install and run...whatever.

Software is freeware/donation ware and can be downloaded here:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Take care and all the best.

OH BOY guys I am really stuck here. I've got the EXACT same problem and can't get rid of it.

"http:///my/search/top/*".... is appended to every single my.yahoo.com search I do, its such a pain because that is my home page.

I have run every Spyware program out there and deleted everything. I ran Ad Aware 6 after updates, Spy Bot after updates, and even others like Bazooka. They found stuff but deleted them all. I have set everything to do Deep Scanning if available and it still didn't help. My.yahoo.com page is STILL hijacked.

I also ran a virus scan with the latest DAT file, no luck.

I even went through and deleted all the temp files (hidden and not), cookies, you name it. I then went through the Registry with a fine toothed comb and deleted anything that I couldn't identify. Oh and I also reset my home page in IE, reset all security levels and restored everything to defaults in the browsers Tools, oh I also ran msconfig and disabled anything I don't use during startup. NOTHING seems to help.

I am at the end of my rope with this problem. Can anyone please help.

I may have to go to a System Restore point in XP to last week when I didn't have this stupid problem but I am a computer technician and its very frustrating not being able to beat this.
