hi, umm with in the system config utility, under the startup tab, how do i get rid of some of them cause the scrsvr.exe virus keeps duplicating itself there. plus how can i stop it from duplicating (i know someones gona say by getting rid of it, but the problem is i hav tried norton and symantic etc and non have erased it, so what can i do?)
thanks.

Here are two removal tools that have been reported to work:
http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/opasoft.shtml
http://www.nod32.com/bb_cln_en.exe

It might not be enough to delete the scrsvrexe-file from Win.ini. I found the virus exe file also in win.bak. That file was not scanned by my AV program.

it is also in system restore and it will mutate and change its name a little when it starts to put itself back.
I fixed it yesterday on my system without all the troubles that everyone seemed to have and it did NOT come back today. I posted step by step info on what I did in the other thread here scrsvr.exe on this website.
there is a patch from microsoft to fix the vulnerbility. it won't eradicate but it will prevent future reinfection.
It's too long to retype all the steps here. But it only took me 20 minutes or so to fix the problem. I didn't even use a virus program to do it. Many I have read others say don't work for this or it only quarantines it but then it gets reinfected again on the next boot. My way fixed all that.

Hey John, sorry to say it but if you were that smart maybe you'd put in a link for the rest of us...Can anyone find his magical fix..There's only another 50 documents to wade through. Hey we've all got time though haven't we...

hazzal,
If YOU were smart and wanted to fix it you would have done a search for scrsvr.exe on this web. I TOLD you the name of the thread the fix was in.since you are so lazy you don't want to help yourself but would rather sling mud and bite a lending hand, here is the url for the other thread:
http://computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/2474.htmland if THAT is not enough you can go to response 73 for the fix. HOWEVER, you WILL have to read the thread to know all the other file types you need to search for.
If this is not enough, then I guess you would send me your computer and expect me to not only fix it free but to also pay the shipping back to you.
As for time, you haven't a clue what I do or go through or how much "time" I have to volunteer info and aid like this not only here but on other websites too. It's people like you that make people like me give up on doing a good deed for anyone!
All you had to do was ask for the url instead of whay you did.

Fair comment. I was a little tactless.
What really riles me though is that people on computing.net tend to post their problems, are given ideas by other people on how to fix their problems, go away and fix their computers but don't update the forum as to how they exactly fixed their problem.
Sorry John, Opaserv got the better of me, causing me to take my frustration out on you.
I have learnt my lesson. It will not happen again.

I too lost it. I appologize for venting so fiercly. It was late and I was tired. Been putting in 60 at the office and then more at home on the net.
So we vented off a bit with each other and saved venting in our personal relationship. Hey! We probably saved each other an argument at home! :-)
Where you able to remove it now? I just did a few searches and still came up clean so I have not been re-infected so I believe my "fix" works. I don't get a chance to scan here everyday so if you have more difficulty you can send me a direct e-mail.
Have a good weekend, whats left of it that is.
