hi, Is it possible for someone to put a virus in a webpage as soon as it loads? I visited a site recently and AVG anti virus cut in and said a virus was detected in c:/windows/temporary internet files/xxxx/xxxx/SCRIPT/EXPLOIT.HTM
i denied access and carried on as normal. Also now this virus is on my pc can i get rid of it by simply deleting the temp internet files or has it already ran and done damage. I would be grateful if anyone knew what this virus is and if it was a conflict with my system or was it put there intentionally.
thanks in advance.

I've had that happen before going to a Google cached link,
Norton popped up & haulted my computer so I could Quarantine
it, mine was VBS.LoveLetterA
I contacted Google since it was one of their cached links,
they never answered me

I'd run an online virus scan at either Panda or House Call
to make sure you're clean
Good luck

If yo go to AVG's site it will tell you that script/exploit isn't really a virus but a bit of bad java whot changes registry settings to enable remote users access to registry fiddling. Classic use of this ploy is to re-set your home page to www.arses&breasts.com or something similar. Avg will get rid of the script and you then have to go into system settings to disable remote registry access. No sweat.

To avoid the homepage hijack of IE in win9x, setup this key in your registry after you make sure the homepage is set to the one you want.

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]
"Homepage"=dword:00000001

If you want to chnge your home page at a later time, you'll have to set this key value to 0 to unlock the Internet options, homepage dialogue.

Thanks for your help. I dont want to block access to the internet options menu as i tend to reset my homepage to blank anyway.
One last query:
How do i disable remote registry access,
i've opened system from the control panel but cant find anything associated with the system settings.
I have Win98SE
thanks in advance

Exactly the same with my PC,using AVG but now the font of Microsoft Outlook 6 is italic and i canīt change it even i try to format fonts again. I installed Norton 2002 and it doesnīt found any virus, but Outlook is still without chance to change from italic.

Just had AVG do same for me. Scan put file in "virus vault". Searched for such for today and found "virus{1}.gif" in Temp Int which I deleted and the hidden virus vault file and deleted same. Rescanned and all appears well - no change to homepage, but I'm running Start Page Guard.
