Hey there,

Recently, when I try to access the internet (using MSIE 5.5) I cant download practically anything (some things get through... but very little)

When I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to access the close program dialog box, I see a process that isn't usally there, called 'script' When I disable it, the problem stops...

I'm not sure where its coming from, but there's a script.exe in my C:\WINDOWS\ dir, however, there's also a script.doc file... & that's like some sort of read-me doc for a dial-up scripting language...

Is this a virus, or is my computer telling me to re-format :(

System:

ASUS CUVX Motherboard
Intel Celeron 600Mhz CPU
320 MB PC133 RAM
15 GB MAXTOR HD
Running Win98 (not second edition)
Generic 56k modem (dont remember the brand)

Thanks in advance,

J

Heh... I kinda made it sound that web-sites were making it through... not the case, NOTHING is downloading... (though instant messengers work)

I managed to detect a virus on my PC recently called 'script/exploit'. It came from viewing a webpage, which showed an error message something like 'this page contains a script error...do you wish to proceed?' I said yes, and contracted the virus. I deleted the virus using AVG. Since then, I cannot open IE5.5 - it just says dnserror.htm at the bottom of the page. Any ideas?

Hi, I got the exact same 'script/exploit' virus and deleted with AVG.
My mouse still freezes when in the PS/2 port but not the serial port however.
I would love to know exactly what this virus was and how I can fix my mouse problem.
Cheers.

Bexx - That sounds quite a bit like my problem. The way I get around this virus, is I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to access the close program dialog box, then closing the program listed as script. I do this a couple times before it manages to close the program.

Does anybody else have any more info on this virus? Maybe on how to get rid of it?
