Hey everyone. I was wondering what screengenie.scr was. I suspect it's either spyware (ad-aware/spybot cannot pick it up, FYI) or a malicious file (AVG cannot pick it up). I know it's a screensaver file, but when I try to use it, it doesn't work. It's a 3 MB file. Can someone please tell me what this is? Thanks.

Do you know where you got it from? You could do an online scan at

Here's some more free scans you can do, copied and pasted from wawadave's post in another thread.

https://nanoprobe.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2It might just be a corrupted screensaver. But its good to check it out.

I've got it too and was curious just as you.
It appears to be a benign file, actually a screen saver module by MediaForge (as file properties namely say: MediaForge/XML Runtime Player). MediaForge is a multimedia authoring tool. Maybe it was installed with an application. At least, the behaviour of this module is described on this page: http://www.xmlauthor.com/collector.htmIf you find more, please tell me. I will just destroy, since I don't need it.
