my daughter has a acer aspire one netbook. it has windows 7 starter. she has had it for 1 1/2 years. this weekend the screen has started to fade to white and freeze up. the cusor will not move, the keyboard will not function. then the screen goes completely white. the power button has to be pushed to restart the netbook. it will restart, but the nortons antivirus will not start. the windows defender will not start either. i get a message in the message center saying these issues must be addressed, but when you click on the message to fix the problem, nothing happens. the exe files to start them are not there. i tried to reininstall the nortons, and the screen went white. i restarted the netbook and tried to access the symantec sight, internet explorer started to access the sight and the screen went white. after restart, the chkdsk found numerous files with security id issues. it fixed them all and when windows loaded, i went into a folder where i keep a copy of the installation file for the nortons and tried to run it. it told me i already had a version on the netbook and could not install, but it gave me a link to the symantec sight and i clicked it. it took me to the sight and did not fade to white. i downloaded the erasure tool from nortons onto my desktop and tried to run the tool. surprise, when i started it, the screen faded to white and locked everything up. i can access youtube, but when i try to search on google for virus help, or browser help, the screen always fades to white. i dont know if this is a virus, but it sure seems like it to me. i have done a system recovery and it is still the same. i have tried to run in safe mode and still no help. always fades to white when i try to run the erasure tool. any help would be appreciated. if you need more information please let me know. i am not a computer wiz so i'm sure i am forgetting to include something.

#1....SCRAP Norton
#2....Run these 3 Progs in EXACTLY the order listed:
a- rkill.exe
b- tdss Killer
c- Malwarebytes
(get the latest version on the right side of that page....IGNORE the left as it is an advertisement

Don't reboot untill after the last prog has run....if that doesn't fix things....try the same in safe mode.

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions 7 Golds
