Safe to use HTTPS for file access?

February 6, 2011 at 00:24:10
Specs: Windows 7 Pro, P4 / 4GIG RAM
I bought a new Netgear ADSL router and it has the option to plug in a USB hard drive and share it over the internet for remote access via https. For example: https://[router ip]/usb_share

There is a password assigned to the device in the router options menu however im still not really convinced that this is a safe thing to do.

Is this a safe to use over the internet or is the risk too great?

HTTPS is pretty safe, and with WPA/WPA2 applied file transfer should be 99.99% safe!

Thanks for your reply. I am more concerned about the access through the internet (WAN) other than the LAN. What do you think about access to the USB drive plugged into the netgear adsl router over the internet WAN? Do you think this is safe?
