My son's computer had the iworm_attck virus and who knows what else. I have been messing with it for 2 days and finally have gotten rid of a bunch of garbage but it is still slower than a snail. This means there are still things wrong with it and I don't know what else to try. I have run adware, spybot, spysweeper, norton and mcafee but it is sooo bad. HELP!!

Have you deleted all temp files? Run a scandisk and defrag? Disabled all non-critical services/processes/startup programs?

Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

And you may have missed part of the infection.

Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified.

Please download HJTsetup.exe from this link http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click "next" in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
Put a check by "Create a desktop icon" then click "Next" again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click "Finish" and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log and post it in this thread.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Run this free online scan from Kaspersky http://kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html
Click Accept
When the updates are finished downloading, click Next, Scan Settings
Under Scan using the following antivirus database:, select extended
Make sure the Scan Archives and Scan Mail Bases options are selected as well. Click OK
Click My Computer and wait for the scan to finish
Click Save Report As. Under Save as type:, select Text file. Save this log to your Desktop and post a copy of it here.

Yep, that looks like the part of iworm you had missed. There are a few other viri/items that need to be fixed and we will need some tools.

Please download ATF-Cleaner to your desktop from this link
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/19/2/ We will need it later in safe mode

Download Ewido Security Suite We will need this later in safe mode

Be sure to update Ewido

Download killbox to your desktop from this link Killbox We will need it later in safe mode

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;

Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;

Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".

Choose your usual account.

Go to start>control panel>add/remove programs> uninstall the following items if found:

Anything with MoviePass, MovieLand or MediaPipe

Party poker

Run Hijack This from safe mode, close all windows except Hijack This, place a check to the left of the following items and press "fix checked":

O2 - BHO: Seekmo Search Assistant Helper - {5929CD6E-2062-44a4-B2C5-2C7E78FBAB38} - c:\program files\seekmo\seekmohook.dll (file missing)

Sorry, my oversight, you do not have a system restore folder so disregard that paragraph.

Your log looks much better.

Please upload these two files from your computer:

C:\DOCUME~1\wendy\LOCALS~1\Temp\GLB26.tmp

C:\DOCUME~1\wendy\LOCALS~1\Temp\Unwise.exe

to the scanner at this jotti's site then post the results http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Then run this free online scan from Kaspersky http://kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html
Save this log to your Desktop and post a copy of it here.

well things are going from bad to worse. My son's computer is getting better but I let him use mine last night while I was working on his. He opened his email and BAM, I got a trojan virus, pop-ups galore porn sites and all kinds of spyware. I now have the warning on the task bar that says System alert: pop-ups (OHPE ver 4.12.23) and another red box gray background with "your computer is infected: critical system error..." malware message. What a mess!

Oh, I was wondering why zone alarm shut down as did AVG free edition. I have them on the computer but when I got on today, none were active!! I restarted them but it isn't helping now except to keep the spyware from sending things out, I hope.

thanks for your help

The Jotti results:

GLB26.tmp
Status: MIGHT BE INFECTED/MALWARE (Sandbox emulation took a long time and/or runtime packers were found, this is suspicious. Normally programs aren't packed and don't force the sandbox into lengthy emulation. Do realize no scanner issued any warning, the file can very well be harmless. Caution is advised, however.) (Note: this file has been scanned before. Therefore, this file's scan results will not be stored in the database)

The unwise.exe file did not exist in the path specified but I did a search and found 2 files that I scanned and both came back "OK"

and just in case here is a new HJT:

Run KillBox fromsafe mode.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time.

C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.dll

Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
It will ask for confimation to delete the file.
Click Yes.
Continue with that procedure until you have pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

Run Ewido and ATF- Cleaner from safe mode again.

Download "spywareblaster" (it's free) from this link http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html install it, update it. Runs in the background re-writing spyware script before it can install on your computer. You have to manually update the free version so look for updaes at least bi-weekly.

If possible install it on your computer also.

Post a Hijack This log from your computer.

Hi Jabuck,

I've also encountered the trojan problem with the OHPE ver. 4.12.23. I've read the procedures you outlined in the previous cases so I downloaded HijackThis and did a scan. But I was told not to post a HijackThis log unless an expert requested for it.
