Hi,

I am having a CPU usage problem, my PC keeps trying to run the "rundll32.exe" file every 3 secs, it doesn't come up with an error, but it is affecting my CPU usage. I tried running pandasoftware, but the program wouldn't load for some reason.
I downloaded updates from Adobe and windows updates, I suspect one of these downloads has caused the problem.
Please help, I'm getting desperate........

Scott,
Rundll is not required and you can start task manually if needed. At other times it can be a virus or spyware/adware. From Alt+Ctrl+Del let me know how much memory rundll32.exe is using? Please Close rundll32.exe by right clicking rundll32.exe in, "Procesess", and choosing, End Process. Then let me know if it reappears.

Arcan,

I am not on that PC at present, but when I tried that last night (I deleted the C:/windows/prefetch/rundll32.pf files and there were about 6 of them) and rebooted my system, they regenerated.
I think the memory usage was about 300KB, but the CPU usage jumps to about 30% from about 5%..................

Scott,
They always seem to regenerate, but there's usually an app responsible for this. If you want to completley rid of the rundll32, you would have to search for it like rundll32 and delete everything under that name no matter the extension in safe mode. Then it should go away for good.

Arcan,

What do you mean by safe mode ? Do you have any reason why the pandasoftware isn't working, could a virus be blocking it ?
I thought this problem might be virus related, but none of my Virus software if picking it up: AVG/Spybot/Adaware/A2/Zonealarm and thanks for your help.......
Scott.

Scott,

When you restart the computer your working on ,hit F8 constantly until you see a screen with an option for safe mode. Choose Safe Mode and load windows. That is safe mode.

Your Panda Software may not be able to pick up all virsuses as new ones are created everyday and yes a virus could effect Panda Software so it does not work correctly. You are talking of many possibilities of what the problem could be (istalling, mabe try unistalling what was just installed, fully delete rundll32.exe, etc.) But first execute these possibilities, and then ask if any further questions.

Thank You,
Jeremy
