It appears to be a valid codec produced by some of the new European video cameras according to a tech at 'Best Buy', unfortunately the drivers etc. Only come with the Camera(s). It seems that the Rpex codec is somehow related to the divx.
The guys at VideoLAN forums have checked it out and are odds as there is no mention in the camera's program of it, but is mentioned in rpexinstaller which comes with the camera's installer package? Try scanning the file with Malewarebytes first then try the following;
If you don't have divx you can try two programs to delete it:
Unlocker 1.9.1
Malwarebytes under "more tools" tab:

Apparently the 'program' was downloaded in order to play a rather dubios video. When the video was played in VLC there was music but no sound so he ran the installation file for the RPEX codec.

This has installed RPEX.EXE on my computer. I don't know what it does and it wouldn't allow me to delete it. However it seems that it has now gone so I guess mbam and CC finally did the trick.

I am NOT convinced that this is a genuine codec and would advise caution at the very least.

Thanks for the help anyway.
