What good are the rpc ports for? My Slackware distro runs some 4 rpc.* daemons and has 3 open ports that I don't know what they do. My RedHat distro doesn't run these daemons, so the ports are closed. Why does one distro run them and another not? Are they that unimportant? Is there a configuration file so I can close them without using a firewall? Thanks in advance. Alex.
