Guys, not sure if this is the exact part of the forum for this question, but I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my Linksys BEFSX41 router.
I have the upgrade utility, .bin file, and instructions, but when I attempt it, I get a message saying "failed to update the date into the flash rom". I have tried that way and another method suggested by Linksys through the setup page in the router, neither succeed.

By the way, the second method produced a "file data pattern" error. Don't know why I won't leave well enough alone, but I figured the firmware upgrade was important enough to try.

Did you use TFTP? What problems were you having that made you want to upgrade? What version were you upgrading to, and what was the upgrade supposed to correct. Sometimes you need to make sure that only one computer is plugged into the router while you do the firmware upgrade.

Capt, call me a moron, but say it with a smile so I don't get my feelings hurt---I downloaded and tried to install the wrong bleepin upgrade!
I failed to notice that the firmware (which was to fix the BootP packet vulnerability had nothing to do with my model. I just hope the darn router is OK after that stupid attempt. My model does have a newer firmware version (I checked, it's the right one), but maybe I best leave well enough alone.

I think that you should be OK. Linksys has the reset feature just for such things.
