Ridirected to wrong websites

January 18, 2010 at 09:46:13
Specs: Windows XP
When I do a search in Google or Yahoo and click on a search result, I am redirected to unrelated websites. It happens both in IE and Firefox. In Firefox, the problem usually does not occur if I hold down the control key so that the site opens in another window. My husband and I are using a wireless router and only my Gateway is affected. His macs are not affected. I have run Spybot, Malewarebytes, and a full scan with Avira and none of them detected a problem. I used SmitfraudFX, which fixes the problem only for a few minutes. Please help.

Try running Hitman Pro 3.5:

It should find an infected driver. You can use the free license to
remove the infection.

I did this and it worked! Spybot alerted me to some changes that Hitman Pro was making to the registry and I allowed them. It doesn't appear that these changes caused any problems, and I'm no longer being redirected. Thanks very much for your help!
