1. Go here and run an online virus scan and copy the report and paste it in a reply.

RAV

2. Download 'Hijack This!'. Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, click "Save Log", and copy and paste it in a reply as well.
HijackThis!

Hello Tacki,
I don't understand this story of 500 virus detected in your computer !!! this is a big joke !!!!
Already with one you got so many problems !!!
with 500 you are dead for 1000 years.....
If you have a good anti-virus installed into your system, you have to buy it to be able to download updates permanently.
You need also a firewall to stealth you from internet when you connect. Download and try Sygate Firewall this program is a freeware, but excellent....
Good luck....

Lol Imp. I don't think he'd be dead for 1000 years---unless one of those bad boys are carrying nukes ;-)

However, 500? I'm nowhere near an expert but that would have to just shut the system down completely. How could the computer be able to do anything? It doesn't make any sense to me, but I'll just wait around and let the others take a look.

500 infected files is no big deal...Most are probably in the restore archive.

True Tom, but going by his original post, it would seem he is saying 500 viruses, not 500 files infected by the same virus. That was what seemed impossible.

thanks for the response. about my first post it seems i wasn't that clear. what i meant was 500 infected files. there are various uncleanable viruses like adw ruledor.c, vbs zikdow.a, reg seeker.m, worm yaha.k and troj femade.c. and also virus, pe-cih which cannot be cleaned because something is in use. does anybody know how i clean this?

Run your AV scan while the PC is in SAFE MODE.
This loads only the minimun of drivers and programs to get the PC started. You will find many Viruses are protected in normal mode.

To get into safemode, re-start the PC and keep tapping the F8 key before the Windows splash screen shows. Use the arrow keys and the enter key to select safemode.
Run the scan and re-start the PC to get back into normal mode.

To clear out the RESTORE folder.....

MY COMPUTER - PROPERTIES - PERFORMANCE - FILE SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING. Check the box next to DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE - APPLY OK then shut down PC for 2 minutes. Restart the PC and re-enable SYSTEM RESTORE.

Do you have an AV program installed? or just rely on an online scan when it's too late?

AVG version 6 is good and free...
www.grisoft.com
Only install an AV program on a 'virus free'
PC.

Tom41 (Response Number 1)is a bit of an expert... have you done this????
