Ive been desperately trying to remove the Smitfraud-C.Coreservice spyware from my computer but have failed miserably. Spybot is not able to remove it and other spyware programs dont even recognize it. Im experiencing alot of sluggishness and popups. Ive seen sucessful cases of people being able to remove this spyware but I just need someone to walk me through all the technical stuff. Can someone please help?

Thank You.

Yes I acutally do need to be guided through using the Smitfraud fix, if it is not a burden. I also did a scan last night with Spyhunter and it found the vundo trojan and look2me program, which just adds to my misery.

Thank you

As far as the Smitfraud program, maybe you could PM djchrisjohnston and ask him how to use it.

If you used Spyhunter trial version I would say it is a false positive to get you to buy the program. If you don't find those problems with these:
You say that Spybot can't remove the problem, does it say WHERE the problem is located? If it is in the restore, you may have to turn off system restore to remove it.
Spybot S&D - make sure to update and also immunize
Adaware SE
Did the x-cleaner scan not help?
Spyware Blaster is also good to add to your arsenal and another good freebie for online spyware protection is Spyware terminator.

Those above should remove the problems

I would also suggest Ccleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4...
and ATF Cleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/ATF_Clean...
to remove excess junk from your PC

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I am having the same problem and I have all my job stuff on the computer!! I cant lose this crap.

My spybot recognizes 4 items, 2 files and 2 registry keys... One file is a data file located in C:\windows\system32\drivers\core.cache.dsk. The other is in C:\windows\system32\drivers\core.sys

am i doomed or will using this program set everything right???

JKaplan1101, you would be better off starting your own thread and be sure to put in everything you have tried and also the proper PC specs. That way people can help you better

I refer many downloads to the majorgeeks site because they are usually more up-dated than other sites.
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results as it will help others.

Hi All

I seem to have successfully removed smitfraud-c.coreservice using the following procedure:

Reboot the computer in safe mode using f8 key as it boots.

go to directory c:\windows\system32\drivers

drag

core.cache.dsk and core.sys

onto the desktop and reboot.

Use the lasted updated version of spybot-search and destroy to remove the two registry entries for smitfraud-C.CoreService

If there is collateral damage from this procedure, I have not seen it yet but would appreciate any comments if anyone sees any problem with the approach.

Regards
Jim Carolan
