Comment:

My homepage has been hijacked by Secure32. I have tried to change my homepage to my Wanadoo homepage but the settting continually changes back to c:\secure32.html.I have run Spybot and Ad-aware but spybot seems to return with CoolWWWSearch registry entries which continually reappear. I also used Hijack this returns with about 6 different secure32 entries. I also tried to fix these but they also continually reappear. When I try to run AVG and other programs a Visual Studio just-in-time debugger window appears saying there is an unhandled win32 exception error in whatever program I try to open. Any program I download it won't let me run. Thanks in advance for any help.

Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Run this free online scan from Kaspersky http://kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html
Click Accept
When the updates are finished downloading, click Next, Scan Settings
Under Scan using the following antivirus database:, select extended
Make sure the Scan Archives and Scan Mail Bases options are selected as well. Click OK
Click My Computer and wait for the scan to finish
Click Save Report As. Under Save as type:, select Text file. Save this log to your Desktop and post a copy of it here.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry took so long getting back, had to work and the PC kept rebooting making it hard to run virus scan.

Please download SmitRemFix from this link http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php Then extract the contents to your desktop.

Open the "SmitfraudFix" folder and double-click "smitfraudfix.cmd"
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Do not run any of the other options yet please, they could damage an uninfected computer

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;

Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;

Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".

Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, open the "SmitfraudFix" folder again and double-click "smitfraudfix.cmd"
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing " Y " and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if "wininet.dll " is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing "Y" and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Also post back with a new Hijack This log.

You still have hacktool and real baddie, may be part of the reboot issue.

Please download haxfix.exe to your desktop.

Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
Click "Next"
When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
Click "Finish"

A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:
1. Make logfile
2. Run auto fix
3. Run manual fix
E. Exit Haxfix

Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter
Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt
Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread. (c:\haxfix.txt)

Ok, lets run option #2.

Double click on My Computer -> C:\ -> Program Files > haxfix and double click on fix.bat (or double click on fix.bat desktop icon)
Close all other open windows since this step requires a reboot
Select option 2. Run auto fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter
If an infection is found, you'll get a message to close all other open windows.

Close all open windows except the red dos window from haxfix and then press Enter
The computer will reboot
After reboot a logfile will open > (c:\haxfix.txt)
Post the contents of that logfile along with a new HijackThis log.

Looking much better.

Reboot into safe mode.

Run Hijack This, close all windows except HT, place a check to the left of the following items and press "fix checked":

O20 - Winlogon Notify: mmxeroxk - mmxeroxk.dll (file missing)

Run killbox again.Start Killbox place a tick next to [x]Delete on reboot "Press the All Files button"
Copy this whole list into the windows clipboard, all the bolded file paths below. Copy the following list of files to clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\Documents and Settings\Bigshot\Desktop\XoftspySetup_lb.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\Bigshot\My Documents\Misc\Hack\kf141ProductKeyFinder.zip/keyfinder.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\socketx113.sys

c:\windows\system32\azebar.xml

Next in Killbox go to File > Paste from clipboard
"Click on the All Files button."
Next click on the button that has the red circle with the white X in the middle.
It will ask for confimation to delete the files on next reboot and ask you if you want to reboot now.
Click Yes and let the computer reboot.

If your computer does not reboot automatically restart it manually.

After the restart, reboot into safe mode once again.

Navigate to and delete the contents of "C:\!KillBox".

Run Ewido from safe mode. When the scan has completed, Ewido will create a report.txt file. Click the "Save Report" button on the bottom of the screen and save the log to your desktop.

Run ATF Cleaner once more. Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Reboot to normal mode.

If you are using system restore we need to clean the restore folder. Go to start>control panel>system>system restore tab>tick the box to the left of "turn off system restore">apply (wait for the hour glass to disappear)>ok. Now go back and untick the box to turn system restore back on.

Create a new restore point. To do so go to Start>Run>type "msconfig" without the quotes>ok>Launch System Restore>Tick the circle beside "create a restore point">next>name it anything you wish>Create>home>restart the computer.

Post the Ewido log on your desktop and a new HT log.

Your log is clean.

You need to update your java to the newest 1.5 version if you don't already have it, the older versions have a security problem.

You should consider adding "spywareblaster" to your computer as a spyware preventer. It's free, do a google search for it ,download it, install it, and update it. Works in the background re-writing spyware script befor eit gets onto the computer. The free versions has to be manually updated so look for updates bi-weekly.
