Comment:

My homepage has been hijacked by Secure32. I have tryed to direct my homepage to my original homepage but the settting continually changes back to (c:\secure32.html). I also deleted this .html file out of the c: drive and also found another in c:\windows\ which i also deleted. Now Internet Explorer no longer displays this page but displays an error mesage which states: (Cannot find 'file:///c:/secure32.html'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.)
I have also ran Spybot and Ad-aware and Vet Anti-Virus, but spybot seems to return with CoolWWWSearch registry entries which continually reappear also. I also used Hijack This and used the Analyzer to analyse the log file, this returns with about 6 different possibly nasty entries. I also tryed to fix these entries but they also continually reappear. I've tryed everything that i can think of and other recommendations but haven't progressed with this problem!

Please help me and thanks in advanced!

If you prefer I'll walk through Hijack This with you.

Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Follow the directions at the following link to temporarly disable "real time protection" for any of the items listed here as they may interfer with the removal process.http://wiki.castlecops.com/Securing_Your_Computer:_Temporarily_Disable_Real_Time_Monitoring_Programs

Please download cleanup from this link http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/

1. Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).

2. Click the Options... button on the right.

3.
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"

4.
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

Empty Recycle Bins

Delete Cookies

Cleanup! All Users

Click OK

DO NOT RUN IT YET

Download killbox from this link http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.exe to your desktop.

Instructions on how to boo into safe mode at this link http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

Run Ht again, close all windows and browsers except HT, place a check to the left of these items and press "fix checked":

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\secure32.html

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\secure32.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\secure32.html

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\secure32.html

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\secure32.html

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\secure32.html

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PayTime] C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe

Restart the computer in safe mode.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time.
Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
It will ask for confimation to delete the file.
Click Yes.

Looks good, you have a clean log.

For instructions on how to purge system restore click Here.

To create a new restore point go Start>Run>type "msconfig" without the quotes>ok>Launch System Restore>Tick the circle beside "create a restore point">next>name it anything you wish>Create>home>restart the computer.

You should do a google search for "Spywareblaster" , download it,update it,and check for updates weekly. This free program runs in the back ground you don't actually run it.

Although the problem has been eradicated there was a side effect as the program iunes will not run, as it comes up with an error message stating that the program has encounted a problem!

Any ideas to what item was deleted that may have caused this problem????

For some odd reason QuickTime had issues, so i uninstalled both Itunes and QuickTime. Then reinstalled both QuickTime and Itunes, which fixed the problem!
But still seems odd because nothing was touched with QuickTime during the removal of Secure32
