Removed Alcra virus, cant regedit

Hello peoples. I've recently removed the alcra virus from a computer I've received, but when I do start>run>regedit I get a DOS box that pops up trying to run regedit.com for a second and then closes. Ive done a search for any files named regedit (showing hidden files) and deleted everything but regedit.exe and I still get the same result. I have also run symantec's tool for viruses that mess with the registry settings to no avail (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/tool.to.reset.shellopencommand.registry.keys.html)
