Remove Trovi virus permanently

October 1, 2014 at 10:25:49
Specs: Windows 7
I removed it once but it came back. I have no software that has any reference to Trovi.
I ran AVG malawarebytes and CC Cleaner but it remains installed.

To add to #1:

Follow the sequence in the exact order including MalwareBytes which you've already run. Before running MalwareBytes go to "Settings > Detection and Protection" and ensure there is a check mark in "Scan for rootkits" (it only adds about 1 minute to its running time).

EDIT:
Just for info, the best time to run CCleaner is immediately after you "suspect" something is awry as it clears out anything nasty that has just arrived in temporary internet files. After that is mostly far too late as the thing has already taken root.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

How did you remove it previously? This seems to have worked for others with the same problem:

Re #5

The manual removal is fine but I should add that the big orange download button is a general virus remover called "Spy Hunter". There are mixed reviews about that (see Google) program and some websites say that it will find things but you have to buy the pro version to have them removed.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Trovi is just a fake search engine. Thus the antivirus programs won't treat it as a malicious virus. You can get rid of it by resetting browser settings manually. Besides, it is suggested that you check the programs installed recently, some which might be unwanted and vicious.
