Remove Troj-mbroot-A

February 26, 2009 at 05:52:01
Specs: Windows XP, 2.8/1.24

I'm using Webroot with anti-virus. A few days ago the software located the Troj/mbroot-a virus. The software quarateed the virus. Tec support directed me to use combifix to remove the virus. No change. The virus is still there and "quaranteened" daily with each virus scan. Webroot would like to charge me approx 100.00 to remotely enter and remove the virus. Seems odd. Is there a way to remove this virus WITHOUT SCREWING UP MY COMPUTER?

The chances are this has infected your MBR =Master Boot Record, and will be extremely difficult to remove without expert guidance.
However, try running the SmitFraudFix for now, please read carefully (best printed ) http://siri.geekstogo.com/Smitfraud...

If this fails you, follow these guidelines to post your scan log results http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum...

There are other forums to help if so needed. Please be patient,an expert will get to you.

DrWebCureit may help also, again please read carefully first http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/?ln...

This is another tool to use from Karpesky, extreme indepth scanner and will take a long time to scan and fix http://avptool.virusinfo.info/en/

Also try Malwarebytes (free version) in safemode http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Did you disable System Restore before cleaning the computer?
