|download the latest AVG free - do this with another computer and save it to a thumb drive. Then install and run on the infected computer. This is a poorly written trojan, but Norton wont fix it. After installing AVG, run a whole computer scan. YOu will find at least 4 issues:|
c:/documents and settings/user name/locals~1/temp/random characters/random characters.exe
registry entry - HKU/randomcharacters/software/microsoft/currentversion/run//randomcharacters
c:/documents and settings/user name/local settings/randomnnumber.exe
and at least one file will be infected FOR INSTANCE:
c:/documents and settings/user name/temporary internet files/content.ie5/randomcharacters/quicktimeinstaller (1).exe
AVG will identify these files (and any others) and clean the trojan from your machine.,
In the future - when you get the bogus window "Your computer has been infected, do you want to download anti-virus?" DO NOT HIT OKAY OR CANCEL OR THE X - instead ALways use the ALT+F4 sequence to close this window.
Get a good anti-virus scanner, keep it up to date - keep good backups. Practice Safe Computing.
