is there any way to remove an internal drive from a desktop system and access it through a laptop to scan it for viruses?

1. Get an external HDD case, providing you have USB/firewire.
2. Get a laptop HDD adapter, plugs the laptop HDD into an IDE cable on the desktop, boot from that, hook the HDD you want to scan as slave.
FYI you may have to load drivers & such on the booting HDD.
3. Use a friends desktop.
