I have a 'mywebsearch' problem. I've uninstalled it with Add/Remove in the control panel.
I've run Spybot (updated) and Spyware Doctor (also updated), but it still remains in my system. I've downloaded HighjackThis but it will not run! (I get a very quick glimpse of the start up message)
Spybot shows the entry that runs on start up, but the folder c:\program files\mywebsearch\ does not show in explorer!
I read that I can remove the reg entries but when I try to run Regedit it, again, fails to open (the screen opens for a nano second but then closes). Am I missing something? Or is more serious than I first thought. (oh, I wnat to resist the temptation to simply re-install XP if poss).

Can anyone help, I'm getting a tad frustrated...

Thanks.

RichL, The link below should be of some help, especially the "Doug Knox Emergency Tool link".

Why does REGEDIT disappear while opening?
