This showed up in Reg Cleaner:

HKEY Local Machine\Software\Licenses
Advanced search:
HKEY_Classes_Root\licenses

Only recent download was SpywareBlaster 3.0 & 3.1. Ran Adaware, Hijackthis, etrust & checked my startup - nothing found. Went into the registry and looked and still have no idea what it is?

Hi colors.....where did you find that entry....in "shell extensions"?
I run RegCleaner 4.3 also, and I also have the new SpywareBlaster. I flipped through my RegCleaner, but I cant find that specific entry. Let me know exactly where you found it, and I'll re-check mine again, o.k.?

Hey tommyo,

When I opened Reg Cleaner I noticed a new 'unknown' entry. I have 4 other entries listed as unknown but I know what they are (America online, Windows, Shockwave.com & Winzip computing). When I click on 'shell extensions' the unknown entries are listed as scrfile-open-unknown, scrfile-config-unknown(shell), comfile-open-unknown(shell), batfile-open-unknown(shell), pitfile-open-unknown(shell), unknown-openas-C:\WINDOWS\Rundll32.exe(shell) & exefile-open-unknown(shell). Hope I don't confuse you since you are so nice to answer my post:-).

Thanks and Happy Easter!

Hello colors, I checked mine again, and I do have all the same as you, except.....
scrfile - open - unknown; pitfile - open -unknown.
I don't know what they are either, but all is running fine here, so I haven't got a clue. I'm not sure how long I've had these, as I never really looked for them before. So maybe they have been here for some time.
Hope this helps a little....have a nice easter, my friend!

Just a wild shot in the dark.

Is it possible AOL has installed some new things when you connected last? I know it does install stuff without asking (like its media center - whatever it is called). I uninstalled it on a friends pc, reconnected to aol and it downloaded / installed the media garbage again. I read some posts somewhere complaining about this.

efabes, Thanks for your input! I removed AOL (America online) years ago. Reg Cleaner must be picking up a left over piece of the software. I don't want to remove it for fear it's file sharing with another program. I didn't run a registry cleanup to find this new entry is was there when I opened it under softerware - new.
The only license I agree to lately was SpywareBlaster. Since tommyo dosen't have it I'm thinking some kind of spyware? My PC is running fine (knock on wood) it just bugs me that I can't figure it out.

I have the same thing, not sure what it is.
We downloaded something, what and when
I don't know.
When I find time I will remove them, and
see what don't work.

Problem free pc also, running ME.

I thought maybe you still used AOL and it installed a new component without telling you (as it seems to like to do), which would show in the registry. I have removed AOL from 3 systems with no problem. You would most likely just need to reinstall the correct network protocols for your connection type.

Do you have a firewall? If not, and if you are concerned about possible spyware, get one. Once set up, it will ask you before allowing anything to dial out. A firewall can be the first indication you picked up spyware.

Sygate and Zone Alarm both have a free version. Check the firewall page at Wilders.

If you have a firewall already (and it is configured properly) and you are not getting a popup asking permition to connect to something unknown, the entry is probably harmless.

This came back after an Ad-Aware scan;

HKEY Local Machine\Software\Licenses
Advanced search:
HKEY_Classes_Root\licenses

Everything seems to work fine for me,
I do not install crap, so I think we
are ok. Reg cleaner made a back-up for
the others, not sure what they are.

Next time I will write down the real name
to go with unknown.

Other words, if everything works don't
fix it. If I find out more, I will post.

Abnormal, Hope you see this reply from me?

I have a question with all the recent adaware updates do you recall which update found:
HKEY Local Machine\Software\Licenses
Advanced search:
HKEY_Classes_Root\licenses
I ran a scan with all of them & not one picked up on it? I wonder why?

I made a copy of 4-7-04 & 4-10-04 updates I was doing some research on each one.

I may have been wrong, still not sure
why that keeps returning.

It will drive me crazy, if I try to find
what it is. Can't be spyware, I don't
get any.

Good luck searching, hope you find your
answer.
