Comment: Would reformatting my hard drive get rid of this virus? I DL this free hd scan and it tells me that my HD is infected. I dont have the ME disk all I have is this recovery disk. ME was installed in the computer when I got it. any help would greatly be appreciated.

Reply: (edit)Reformatting can be a messy job. You would need to re-install the drivers and any personal files you have on the machine eg E-mail addresses, jpg's & mp3's and the like. My PC was supplied with the wrong back up CD. Something I only found out when I needed it most ! As Tom41 says...removing the virus is the best option. There are several free online scans you can use and they will allow you to delete the rogue file easily. On a few cases it may be a bit more involved. Try an online scan from... http://housecall.antivirus.com or http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/activescan.asp? Report back with the name of the virus and where it was found and the name of the online scanner.
