Hi, I installed Avast on this laptop after we totally uninstalled Norton using the uninstaller and Avast worked fine for awhile. All of a sudden the other day a red box popped up with this message... 1. In the red box it says - an error has occurred while attempting to update! Click here for more information 2. When I clicked on "more information" the message was Information about current update: "Last encountered error. The system cannot find the file specificied. Total Time 3.55 That is the only message. So I got her to uninstall avast and she had the option of repairing it, so we tried that. Worked for a few days and then the pop-up again. So I uninstalled Avast totally, defragged and did a disc scan then downloaded another copy from Alwil. Worked great for a week and then the pop-up came back. Anyone else had this problem? Anyone know how to rectify it INSTEAD of offering other AV's? Thanks Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

XPUser4Real, the only thing I can think of is that a part of Norton is still in the system and is causing a conflict. After you removed Norton did you use the Norton removal tool. It is at; http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR... After you use it try installing Avast again.
