recovery console password

My sister has a pc which will not boot following a suspected virus attack. It gets as far as windows is loading and bank ... BSoD!

I've popped in a winxp disc in the cd drive and booted from there choosing R for recovery console and choose the one and only windows install on C: by choosing 1 and hitting enter. next I'm prompted do enter the administration password?? but since there wasn't a password set to our knowledge I hit enter but it still asks for a password? Next I try and remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes to clear any passwords (but I guess this would only clear any bios passwords and not windows passwords). So, how do I get to run the recovery console without knowing this password?

go after the console.the cd will check for preavious versions of windows and it will find your win xp and there will be an option repair chose that.after that try to login if windows has a seperate admin account than the one the user has boot in safe mode and you'll see it in the login screen.
hope it helps
