I would always be able to get by in the past using free versions of ad-aware and spydoctor that I downloaded from download.com, but now there are pop ups and other spyware issues that are sticking around for the long haul. Those free versions are not getting the job done anymore and I need a program that will run full time on my computer and has great scan features. Sorry if this was already addresses in another post, I looked but didn't find anything.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend the top 5 anti-spyware/malware programs for me and also maybe there prices for there full versions. I’m not really sure how much these programs run for and I also need to install this same program on two other computers, so if you can throw in a couple of programs that are good on the pricing and sharing, that would be great. But I would not mind paying a higher price if the program is high in quality.

Thanks in advance and your advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm a big fan of freeware, and use programs such as Ad Aware, Spybot, CW Shredder, and Hijack This. However, my wife's PC recently picked up a nasty Trojan downloader which hit us with the about:blank problem, and I couldn't clean it with the free programs. So I did a little research and found very favorable reviews for Spy Sweeper by Webroot. Normal subscription price is $29.95, but I found that it on sale for $25 (download, plus they threw in a free download of Window Washer). I bit the bullet, got out my credit card, and ordered it online. It worked like a champ!

For normal use, I like:

Kerio 2.1.5
AVG
Adaware
Spybot S&D
Spywareblaster

For the occasional repairs:

SW Shredder
Hijack This
Crap Cleaner
fdisk /mbr

NOD32 is 1st Desktop Product Certified for Both Spyware Prevention and Cleaning

I use NOD32 (gift from my son), but it really hasn't saved me from anything, awesome product I think, definitely treads lightly.

Common sense and (up to date) Gecko based browsers (Firefox, SeaMonkey) are the way I travel. Java disabled (not javascript) until I wish to use it at "trusted" sites.
