Comment: I ran Ewido a few days ago and it detected and removed 119 objects that Norton's scanner simply ignored. I'm not too pleased with that and wonder of I'd be better off removing Norton and going with a different AV program. I have Norton Internet Security 2005 with all the bells and whistles. Do you think I should switch AV programs? Can you recommend a good one?

Reply: Ewido looks for different things - spyware specifically (& from reviews not that well). If Norton is running ok then keep it but add Microsoft's Antispyware, Spybot, Spywareblaster & Adaware. - all free & good at what they do. Norton usually gets criticised for resource-hogging (as does Ewido), not it's AV capabilities which are generally as good as any other. "I know that I'm mad, I've always been mad"

Reply: Yes that's another thing. - Right after I installed Norton I couldn't believe how much slower my PC ran. It takes much longer to boot up and shut, open and close programs. This version of Norton has a firewall and updates itself automatically. I'll check out those other programs you mentioned. Thanks everyone for your help.

Reply: Everyone has their own opinion and favorites, here are mine. I use Trend Micro anti-virus. They have an excellent reputation and also provide an 800 number for tech support as well as on-line. I had AVG on my wife's computer and switched to Trend, it detected and removed a virus on the pre-install scan. Also comes with a good firewall. Never had a problem as long as I've used it 5+years now. Spyware: I now use PestPatrol 2005. Prior to this I used MS Beta, plus Adaware and Spybot. On the first run of PestPatrol it found and removed 29 items not detected by any of the others. It updates daily and runs in the background to prevent infection.
