Subject: really screwed up computer....OS: Windows XP Home EditionCPU/Ram: 2.4 Ghz, Intel Celeron Pr |
Comment: Alright ladies and gents, I got a real problem with my laptop. This thing loads windows(slowly), then everything in the computer loads slow. I open task manager to see what happens and there are several copies of this one file; xjtHq.exe and then several other files; Cbinbc32.exe, CfgWiz.exe, OSA.exe, FINDFAST.exe, LUCOMS~1.exe, UsrPrmpt.exe just to name a few of them. The cpu in maxed out on processing power and if the task manager is run for long it shuts down the cpu. If i try to run norton it shuts down the system, if i run in safe mode, norton won't load. I've already run spybot and adaware in safe but that just got rid of a bunch of junk. I really need some help on this one folks. Any advice?

Reply: you can click start, then run, type in msconfig , click ok, then click the startup tab, uncheck findfast.exe, then click ok. Process File: findfast or findfast.exe Process Name: Microsoft Office Indexing . it's not needed at startup, will autostart when using office. and run an online antivirus scan xjtHq.exe and Cbinbc32.exe sound suspicious. try a second scan at trendmicro.com and choose the complete scan. when you get to that page. (use internet explorer when running online scans) and Lucoms~1.exe is (Symantec), LiveUpdate Engine. it is needed for live update, if you have nav or other norton products installed.

Reply: lucoms.exe is a part of Symantecs Internet security suite, so if you no longer have this you can delete/uncheck it.
