System Specs: 1.5 Ghz P4, 40G HDD, 512 MB RAM
OS: Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro
Problem severity: severe/extremely annoying
Problem: Yesterday at 10PM, i was browsing the Net with Internet Explorer, and suddenly as i was opening a new window, it never came out. Tried clicking again. Nothing. System was beginning to freeze up, but second later it froze up completely. So i restarted PC and tried again. Tried Alt+Ctrl+Del to see what was going on in the processes. iexplore.exe was in the list, gobbling up 4-6MB of memory and hogging 100% of the processor, no wonder system was so unresponsive! I was in XP Pro at the time, so i rebooted into Windows 2000. Internet Explorer was fine, until 5 mins later same problem came up. once again, iexplore.exe was in the Processes list, hogging 6MB of memory and 100% of processor. I ended the iexplore.exe process and system was fine once more. Then i tried clicking IE again. Same problem. In XP i tried Repair, which destroyed my Windows Updates, and result: nada. Tried System Restore to a week ago. Zip. Tried uninstalling-reinstalling IE. Nope. Installed AntiVirus (PC-Cillin 2001), found 2 viruses, elitewrap.exe, virus name TROJ_DROP_GR.A. Cleaned them out immediately, same problem with IE, restarted with same problem once again. Tried 2nd scan. No results.
Help? Is this a virus or what is it? I have not changed any system settings or installed any new software lately. Plz help, anyone!!!
TIA...i would do the same for you people...:(
