I had the new one for a short time, but it's insistence to try to access the network every 5 minutes and check in with RealNetworks was really causing havoc. The thing has freezed my system up more than once.

The only RealPlayer I ever liked was version 8, since it seemed to work so smoothly, and, didn't try to make itself the default player and try to access the system when you didn't want it too. The only way I can describe the versions since then is "bully".

dw266, I agree with you. I had to upgrade to get my favorite NPR Radio station and Car Talk. You can stop all the crap by carefully selecting the installation options and then going through the preference options. Some of those setting options also had to be done even with Real Player 8.

Hi Capt.
There is a file that still tries to access the Internet...... realevent.exe

If you start the PC in safe mode and search for this file you can rename it to realevent.ex- and the player still works OK and no bugs (I think).

You obviously have to select during instalation NO to any offers of SPAM, ADVERTS and other rubbish disguised as RECOMMENDATIONS, OFFERS (stop fibbing!).
