I had quicktime popping up in my systems tray and I have simply unticked it in msconfig. When I when in to uninstall quicktime it gave me to choice. 1. To uninstall only quicktime. or 2. To uninstall everything which I was warned could interfere with my computer operations. I only uninstalled quicktime but I am wondering why the choice given and if the reason for not clicking everything is so that spyware can remain on my computer. Also can I simply remove c:\windows\system\qttask.exe from my computer without any damaging effects? Please advise simply as I am not too bright lol
Thanks

Before uninstalling Quicktime, I was given the same two choices. I chose everything and suffered no problems whatsoever. In fact, after the uninstall, I went into the registry and cleaned out a couple of useless Quicktime keys. As you did, I suspected they simply wanted to leave a bit of spyware on my PC. 8-)

That said, I'm running XP; you're running ME. But I can't see why that would make any difference.

PS--Make a System Restore point before you uninstall--you can always go back that way.

I finally did delete everything. Then I used Norton Utilities that cleaned up my registry. I can't believe the endless files that were on there. The good thing is I hear that the newer version of Quicktime gives you the option of not having it started on start up and landing in your system tray. Thanks for your input.
