Simply, a virus is code that can do something, usually undesireable, to your computer system without your consent or knowledge. A worm is code (often but not always a virus) that spreads itself. A bot (robot, spider, crawler) is code that travels the Internet, generally gathering information. Search engines use bots to maintain their databases. Bots are also used by spammers to harvest email addresses from web sites.
