Subject: Question on Nimda and Norton AV 2002.
Comment:

Hi all,
Recently Norton AV (2002) has been popping up and telling me that I have Nimda on my system (Win XP) Usually it says it's in my Docs folder in various locations. When I run a full scan it doesn't detect it at all. Also I had set Norton not to allow access to any infected file so it doesn't seem to have harmed anything and everything's running fine. Btw my virus defs are always up to date. I have also run other scanners...Panda and Trend Micro and they don't find it either.
Any ideas?

You shouldn't run more than one anti-virus program on your computer.

But I'm curious. Why even have Norton installed if you won't allow access? You want to repair or delete those files if a virus is detected.

Mainly because a number of users use this computer and they are not all savvy enough to know what to do with the file. So I figure no access is safer:)

Hey yeah I was wondering has anyone tried using the cleaning tool 4 navidad from norton I used it and its much different from the other cleaners they have put out when I run it it just pops up and says no navidad detected it does not even scan any files like the rest of their cleaning tools. I first noticed the problem when I went to back up some stuff in nero and it said that something had been written into the executable so I did an online scan at a few different places and all of them detected nothing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling nero about 60 times and ever since I got that error my comp will only let me install burning software 4 mp3's only so I can back up no video or anything else. Then I tried installing and uninstalling norton, mcafee, and panda from their sites everytime I would be downloading them at 250k/s and my dl would just stop. So I got norton from a freind and every time I try to install it but I always get a variety of random errors such as - the norton full system scan and the live update will not install, when tryin to install I get bad crc errors from a file that I know is good , it will pop up and say to complete installation u have to reboot select yes 4 reboot no 4 not if I pick reboot norton then gives me an error sayin installation failed cause system is shutting down, if I choose no then it gives me other random errors and reboots anyway,If I don't do anything it still will reboot, some times it will just not let me update it sometimes it won't let me do anything at all I have tried everything on the norton site all their tools do not detect anything no anti virus I have been able 2 find can. Now it has deleted a bunch of icons off of my desktop, disabled backing stuff up,set windows settings such as wallpaper, windows, and icons back 2 default, disabled direct connect, and gives me an error randomly when trying to login (could not log in under this identity the registry has been corrupted) but other times it lets me log in.Also when direct connect was enabled if I tried to download anti virus software it would stop the download knock me off direct connect and knock the person I was getting it from off too. please any assistance would be greatly appreciated since I'm getting none from any of the antivirus techs.Thk u much for any response Ileave u with my latest error :( File: C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\NAVLUCBK.dl^
