Comment:

I have been having a problem for a couple days now and don't know what else to do. I'd really appreciate your help. About three time a day this will show in internet explorer. I ran and updated ad-aware and spybot and I also tried doing a system restore and none of those things helped. Any advice you could give me would be appreciated!

When you click the link, that is what randomly opens up on my computer. In case the link isn't working, I'll explain it. Internet Explorer opens up on its own and displays this text:

/* a161.dl - Wed Mar 22 14:30:06 EST 2006 */ ;

It is just that text with a white background. It's not a popup but it does only seem to do it when I'm on the computer for some reason. It has even done it when I am browsing the internet sometimes. Hope that is enough information for you.

Do you have SP 2 installed? If not enter the control panel. Then open Administrative Tools and then go to Serivices, scroll down to "messenger" and select properties, then select startup type and select disable, select apply then ok.

Hmmmm, maybe Jabuck will ask you for a HJT log, he's really good at that stuff.
Sounds like you have some nasties on board.

You did mention a link that comes up....what is it? Also, why would you click on it if you didn't know where it was coming from?

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

No, a link doesn't come up. I posted a link in the first message to what I see when the problem occurs. Don't ask me why, but it's accesibly via the web address in that link.

I have to be away for a bit and will return in 4 hrs.

Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.
