Subject: Question about using Adware LavasofOS: WinXp Pro/Fedora Core 2CPU/Ram: 500 |
Comment: I have been using Ad-ware for awhile know. Why does it suggest that the Trojan be placed in the quarantine box rather the just deleting them? Why would you not want to just delete them? Contrary to what adware suggest I delete them. Is this going to cause me a problem down the road? Never say Never Romeo Void Firefox 1.0.7 A Safer Browser Thunderbird 1.0.7

Reply: It's pretty straightforward - items are quarantined in case you may want (or need) to restore them. Why? Because of such things as false positives, or else ad supported software that gets 'broken' when 'fixed' by Ad-aware AA is not really a trojan solution, although it may find such - but as the name suggests, its main function is the removal of adware and spyware If you get people asking the wrong questions, you don't have to worry about the answers

Reply: tiyogi Some software - especially free stuff - often comes with Adware\Spyware - if it is removed then sometimes the Program will no longer work Therefore it is best to Quarantine things for at least a few days If a piece of Adware\Spyware - often Tracking Cookies - is\are essential to the Program then you can put it\them into the Ignore List It really depends on the nature of the 'object'as to what you do with it Lesley

Reply: Thanks for the replies. Now I know why the suggestion is made by the software. I guess I have been lucky you could say. I have always deleted with no ill effects. Once again thanks for clearing that up for me. Never say Never Romeo Void Firefox 1.0.7 A Safer Browser Thunderbird 1.0.7

Reply: Sometimes a "nasty" can infect a valid file, so in the extreme (unusually) deleting it could cause a problem as first step. In this rare instance it gives you time to find a good replacement before you burn your boats. The best bet is to examine the file and decide whether it is safe to delete it or not. As has been said, make sure it is not a false positive etc. Google or this forum should help. If in doubt leave it in quarantine for a while (to see if all goes well) before deleting it. DerekW

Reply: Sure - basically quarantine is just a failsafe, a little like the Recycling Bin. It takes the file (or whatever) out of play, and once you are satisfied it's unwanted, you'd dump it for good. Most of the time just deleting them would be fine, but just in case... If you get people asking the wrong questions, you don't have to worry about the answers

Reply: BTW, just to be pedantic, the program is Ad-Aware (adware is the stuff it finds/removes). DerekW
