Question about ms windows update

I need to know if I need this windows update. It says that there is the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 available for my computer. I have no idea what this is, but I did a little reading at Microsoft site on this and I'm still a little confused. I checked in my Administrator folder and I see I have the version 1.1.4322.573. Do I need this download or is it already installed on my pc. I'm asking because it says that it can't be deleted. I just need to be safe. I can't afford another computer. This was a refurbished pc when I bought it. Thanks. I'm not ignorant, I just need more learning!
