Subject: Question about email attachment
OS: Windows ME
CPU/Ram: Pentium r 111/384
Comment:

I'm still pretty new with using ZoneAlarm. I have the Pro version. I have it set up to monitor my email. For the first time ever, today I was notified from ZoneAlarm that it had quatantined an email.

It read: Renamed email attachment click here to visit bn.com.url.exe
It said Direction:incoming, Type:MailSafe,
IP Source: 209.206.160.252.110
Rating:Medium

What does it mean when it says Renamed email attachment? Is this some kind of virus or spam?

Hello Tammy,
I am not familiar with the pro version of ZoneAlarm, but I don't understand why this program is asking you to quarantine a file attached ??? Zone Alarm is a firewall, not a anti-virus program nor anti-spyware.
Normally files attached can be checked by anti-malwares as for exemple AV Norton, if requested....
Are you sure your ZoneAlarm is not corrupted ?
tell us a little bit more about this attachment....

According to the zone labs website, it is called Inbound MailSafe. It says it "Shields you from dangerous email attachments" and it says 47 file types.

I would test it. Email yourself (from another pc) a harmless .exe file. If zone alarm blocks/renames the harmless file, you may have a problem. If not, it looks like a good feature.

That email was delivered to my outlook mail box. I actually seen it and read the body. I didn't reconize or understand what it was about. When I saw it in my Zone alarm, I decided to just delete it. So I no longer have it.

You know, I have been wondering at times if Zone alarm was working. I have downloaded housecall botton, but I don't quite understand how to use it. I've been so busy trying to get my other computer running for my handicaped son that I havent had time to figured out how to use housecall.

Just about every other day this week I have used Ad-ware, Spybot,SpyBlasterware, hijackthis and shredder. Although I am still not sure where or when I should use shredder. They haven't detected anything. What is the online program to test Zone alarm?

I didn't post hijackthis because I think it looks like my last hijackthis post after the bad stuff was cleaned up.

I only mentioned testing the inbound mail feature because it might block email attachments that you actually want/need.

It could inadvertantly change / damage legit photos, mp3's, programs that you were expecting.

I was not questioning zone alarms effectiveness. I use 3.0 on one of my pc's and it works great.
