Subject: P/S Shut down -Possible BIOS Virus?OS: XP ProCPU/Ram: 1.5/1.8 ghz- 256/512Manufacturer/Model: INTEL D850GB |
Comment: I have three computer systems at home, and wish for some input. A month ago, I tried starting up one of my computers, and it would start up & then immediately shut down. I figured it was a power supply or Motherboard problem,so I decided to repair it later & use another computer I had instead. To my dismay is morning, another one of my computers did the same thing, powered up & immediately shut-down. I tried stating it up again, it went to the XP login screen & below the User login Name it stated" You have an email". and then immediately shut-off. The power supplies in both computers are running the leds, & suppling power to monitors. But none of the fans in p/s & cpu are working. They come on only briefly when I first turn it on...then they die also. I read that once your BIOS is corrupted it can cause P/S to shut off. Can this be a virus that corrupts the BIOS? I can't flash the BIOS at all, because both of the computers shut off almost immediately. Both of these computers have an INTEL D850GB mother board. Any one with any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thanx. PerPlexed in DA Woods of MIchigan.

Reply: I'll leave others to advise on your problems but you can about forget the idea of a BIOS virus. I guess nothing is "impossible" but that one is most unlikely. DerekW
