Comment: A good way to protect yourself against VBS viruses is to prevent them from running. To do this, use notepad to create an empty file and name it 'something.vbs'. Then right click on it while holding down the shift key, select 'open with', select 'notepad' to open it, select 'always use this program to open this type of file' and click 'ok'. Now if you do get a VBS virus, instead of inserting itself in your system, it will be innocently opened by notepad and not cause any problem.

Reply: Do you know this works? I'm just wondering. It makes sound sense but I'm going to run it by Vmyths.com and see if they know if this working. If it does work, great advice. I've just have not seen anyone ever post this information before but then again. I could have missed it. Thanks, KTTD

Reply: At times the simplest things tend to work best. Notepad is opening the file as text and not actually calling up built-in Visual basic thats built-in most of MS's major proggies to execute the code.

Reply: If you really want to protect yourself from these types of viri, install ScriptSentry. http://jasons-toolbox.sectorlink.org/ In addition to VBS files, it will intercede when the following filetypes get executed. SHS, SHB, REG, HTA, and the rest of the WSH types, VBE, JS, JSE, WSF, WSH

Reply: If you're on a Win9x machine you might also want to do the following. I've done this for as long as I can remember and do this as a matter of course when setting up a new PC. Control panel, Add/Remore programs, Windows Setup, Accessories...and uncheck the "Windows Scripting Host". Then give it a reboot. With this disabled, even if VBS scripts get on your PC they now have no interface to actually let them run.
